Members of the Philippine Skateboarding Team will temporarily take a break from their series of training and Olympic qualifying tournaments that started in April.
From the United States, the Philippine squad including National Team President Carl Sambrano, Vice President Anthony Claravall, Coach Daniel Bautista and Tokyo Olympic-bound skater Margielyn Didal went straight to Europe.
According to Bautista, their team decided to go back to the country to take a momentary break from their series of activities. “Matagal rin ‘yung biyahe, napagod rin kami. Si Margie, we need to rest, we will be staying here for a few days.”
The team will go into quarantine in Manila for seven days before flying back to Cebu where they will stay for a while before heading for their last training camp in Los Angeles, California more than two weeks before the Tokyo Olympics starts.
“Marami kasing skate parks doon and magandang training iyon because it’s the closest sa Olympic course,” Bautista continued.
Didal is the tenth athlete of the Philippines who will be competing at the Olympics after her top 13 finish in the Tokyo Olympic rankings released by the World Skate. – Report by Khay Asuncion/ JBB-rir
