PH secures 158-M vax deliveries from 5 manufacturers

By Christine Fabro

With the recent signing of the government’s biggest vaccine procurement this year, the Philippines has now secured the delivery of at least 158 million doses this year, “just enough to vaccinate the Philippine population”.

Five manufacturers, namely Sinovac with 26 million doses, Sputnik V with 10 million doses, Moderna with 20 million doses, AstraZeneca with 17 million doses, and Pfizer with 40 million government-procured vaccines are expected to arrive this year.

The COVAX Facility has also committed 44 million doses for the country and another 1 million Sinovac doses will be coming from China, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a public briefing on Monday (June 21).

As of June 20, a total of 12,705,870 doses of vaccines have arrived in the Philippines.

7.5 million of which are Sinovac vaccines, 2,556,000 are AstraZeneca, 180,000 doses are Gamaleya, and 2,469,870 are Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines.

As of June 19, a total of 8,222,759 doses have been administered in the Philippines. From these, 6,102,625 are first doses while 2,120,134 are second doses.

The Philippines also recorded its highest daily vaccination rate on June 15 with 322,929 administered vaccine doses.

“Kung inaasahan na maaabot natin ang 500,000 daily vaccination rate bilang target, kayang-kaya po ang ating target dahil napatunayan na natin na kapag sapat ang supply ay umaabot na tayo ng 322,929 doses per day. Siyempre, kapag dumami pa ang supply, walang problema iyong 500,000 per day,” Roque said.

As of June 20, there are 1,359,015 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 1,277,715 recoveries, and 23,621 fatalities nationwide.

According to data from Johns Hopkins on COVID-19 world ranking, the Philippines is on the 24th spot with highest total cases at 1,359,015 and 23rd in countries with the highest number of active cases at 57,679. –rir
