AFP sends troops for disaster response amid Taal unrest

The Armed Forces of the Philippines has deployed several Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) units to the areas affected by Taal volcano’s eruption.  

Per reports, response units from the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Jungle Fighter Division (2ID), Philippine Air Force, and Philippine Coast Guard were deployed through the Joint Task Group Taal to conduct HADR missions following the recent phreatomagmatic eruption of Taal which affected areas across Batangas. 

According to Brig. Gen. Rommel Tello, assistant division commander of 2ID and Joint Task Group Taal commander, 939 families from Agoncillo and Laurel towns have already been evacuated. 

“We are in constant coordination with the local disaster risk reduction and management councils and the local government units to support the evacuation efforts being conducted across the affected areas,” he said.

“Our unity as Filipinos is essential especially during these challenging times. We are one with all the levels of government and various agencies in helping our fellowmen get through this disaster and may our efforts reiterate our intent to fulfill our duty of being servants of the people.” (AFP) – jlo
