Bello wants study on scrapping licensure exams

By NG Seruela

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III clarified that he is eyeing the possibility of studying the abolishment of licensure examinations.

In an ANC interview on Thursday (July 8), Bello said he does not mean to scrap the professional licensure examinations, but rather study the possibility of doing so.

“My proposal is for the Philippine Nurses Association  and Professional Regulation Commission to study the possibility. So, I didn’t propose scrapping it,” he said.

Bello asserted that he would rather trust the in-depth studying of the students than the bar exams.

“I can trust the eight years of learning, studying, preparing for examinations compared to one bar examination,” he said.

On Wednesday (July 7), the Labor chief floated the idea of abolishing the licensure examinations for nurses, lawyers, and other professions because he believes the schools they attend are accredited by the Commission on Higher Education and they have undergone years  of thorough studies. – jlo
