TS ‘Salome’ maintains strength as it moves to WPS: PAGASA

MANILA — Tropical  storm “Salome” (international name Haikui) has maintained its strength as it moves towards the West Philippine Sea Friday, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 8 a.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said “Salome” was last observed at 90 kilometers west southwest of Iba, Zambales. It has maximum sustained winds of up to 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph.

Signal No. 1 is hoisted over the provinces of Cavite, Batangas, Bataan, and Zambales. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected within “Salome’s” 200-km diameter.

PAGASA said “Salome” is expected to exit the country by Saturday morning.

The outer rainbands of “Salome” will affect the regions of Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Cagayan Valley, Ilocos, Cordillera, and the province of Oriental Mindoro.

Metro Manila, as well as the provinces of Bulacan and Occidental Mindoro will also experience rains and gusty winds. Winds in northern and central Luzon and the rest of the country will be moderate to strong while seas will be moderate to rough. (Lily O. Ramos/PNA)
