Manila Bay dolomite beach temporarily reopens

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) reopened the first phase of the dolomite beach along Manila Bay in Roxas Boulevard on Sunday (July 18).

DENR Undersecretary Jonas Leones inspected the artificial white sand on Sunday and announced its reopening so the public could witness the government’s beach nourishment efforts.

Leones said a three-day public viewing is set to assess whether the artificial white beach may be opened again to the public.

The dolomite beach is only accessible to the public until Tuesday (July 20). Up to only 120 people every five minutes are allowed inside the phase one premises.

“Titingnan namin after three days, we will be assessing kung anong plano na ang gagawin natin… Tinitingnan natin kung makakaya ng mga strict protocol ‘yung pag-a-allow namin ng mga taong pumupunta sa beach area,” Leones said during the inspection.

“We just allowed people kasi bawal naman ang gathering diyan. Ang target na mga tao diyan, ‘yung mga nasa baywalk, at ‘yung namamasyal, kasi naglalakad sila diyan from [Manila Yacht Club] hanggang dito sa [U.S. Embassy],” Leones said. – Report from Rod Lagusad / CF – jlo
