PTV to air Malagos Chocolates’ shift to online

The People’s Television Network (PTV) and Department of Agriculture (DA) will air a special episode of “Ani and Kita” featuring Malagos Chocolates during the July 24 Laging Handa public briefing at 11:00 a.m.

Malagos Agri Venture Corp., the producer of multi-awarded Malagos Chocolates, shifted to online selling amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company has been in the cocoa industry for more than eight years. However, the pandemic forced the company to change its style of business operations due to challenges in demand, which is largely dependent on tourism.

Rex Puentespina, a chocolate maker of the Davao-based corporation, said the shift in selling platform paved the way for the reinvention of some of their products, since they cannot rely on a single sector as its market.

He added that they remain consistent in using good quality beans for the production of great chocolates. The chocolate producer has also been working with the DA for its product promotion.

In 2020, the company bagged four gold and one bronze medals at the 2020 World Drinking Chocolate Competition in Germany.  Its cacao variety was also given “heirloom” recognition by the United States-based Cacao Preservation Fund in early 2019.

“Ani at Kita” is a DA project that taps ‘agripreneurs’ to share their marketing best practices with those who wish to know more about getting their farm products to consumers.
