DepEd: Blended learning remains in SY 2021-2022

The Department of Education (DepEd) said blended learning will remain as the default mode of lecture for the school year 2021 to 2022 that will open on September 13.

In a Laging Handa public briefing, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said President Rodrigo Roa Duterte still did not approve the department’s proposal for pilot testing of face-to-face classes due to the continuous threat of COVID-19

“So itong summer period gagamitin natin pag-advance ng mga batang maayos na at pag-catch up naman ng remedial at enrichment classes during summer,” she said.

The department also admitted that distance learning during the school year 2020 to 2021 because of the pandemic did not go smoothly. However, the DepEd assured that they are preparing to improve for the upcoming school year.

“It is a very imperfect situation. So kailangan talagang mag-react as quickly as possible, we are not saying that we came out with the perfect answer to an imperfect situation and perfect expectations from the public who wants perfection from us,” Sec. Briones said.

“’Yung mga naging problema sa quality assurance ng mga learning resources natin ay i-a-address natin dahil sa karanasan natin, yung pagka-depende natin sa printed learning ay gusto nating mabawasan,” DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan added.

Meanwhile, the department is also preparing for the possibility of limited face-to-face classes. They currently have 100 target schools where the pilot testing will be conducted.
