By Christine Fabro

The National Capital Region (NCR) showed an uptick in new COVID-19 cases and average daily new cases this past week, the OCTA Research group said on Tuesday (July 20).

“The reproduction number in the NCR increased to Rt = 1.06, the first time it went above 1 since since April 18, 2021, when the region was still under ECQ (enhanced community quarantine),” the OCTA said in its monitoring report.

“The average daily new cases in the NCR increased by 11% to 701 as of July 13 to 19, 2021. The daily average has remained less than 700 over the past four weeks,” it added.

However, the independent research team said this uptick is not yet a cause for alarm, as it is “still too early to determine if this will continue to be an increasing trend.”

OCTA said Mariveles, Bataan is classified as very high risk, while classified as high risk areas are Davao City, Cebu City, Bacolod, Iloilo City, Makati, Cagayan de Oro, Baguio City, General Santos, Laoag, Lapu Lapu, and Butuan.

It added that very high reproduction numbers were observed in Cebu City, Laoag, Lapu Lapu, and Mariveles, while very high incidence rates of average daily attack rate were observed in Laoag and Mariveles.

Moreso, the places with very high care utilization rates are Taguig (100%), Iloilo City (97%), and Davao City (96%). – jlo
