Sinkhole appears following Batangas quake, DPWH to assess infra damages

A sinkhole appeared around 7:00 a.m. today (July 24) beside a house in Brgy. Laguile, Taal, Batangas after two mild to strong earthquakes jolted Batangas early Saturday morning.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said they are tracing the cause of the sinkhole.

Last year, several sinkholes were also spotted in some towns in Batangas, after the wrath of Super Typhoon Rolly.

Meanwhile, the Department  of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has deployed teams to assess infrastructures in three regions following the earthquake that shook parts of Luzon today.

Clearing operations are being conducted to the National Capital Region (NCR), Calabarzon, and Mimaropa, according to a Facebook post by Public Works Secretary Mark Villar on Saturday.

In a separate advisory from the DPWH, it said all national roads and bridges in NCR, Regions III, IV-A and IV-B are passable to all types of vehicles. – Report from Allan Francisco / CF – rir
