Filipina boxer qualifies for semis, assured of at least bronze

Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio qualified for the semifinals of the women’s 54-57 kgs in the Tokyo Olympics Wednesday (July 28).

She overpowered Yeni Marcela Arias Castañeda of Colombia during the quarterfinals of the women’s featherweight division, with scores of 29-28 from one judge and 30-27 from two others.

Petecio is now assured of at least a bronze medal after her quarterfinal win.

Two more wins are needed for Petecio to bring home the Philippines’ second gold Olympic medal.  (PTV Sports) PG –jlo
