SWS: Hunger decreased by 3.2% in June

The Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed that the number of Filipinos who experience involuntary hunger has decreased by 3.2%.

Based on the survey conducted from June 23 to June 26, the rate of Filipinos who experience involuntary hunger eased from 16.8% in May 2021 to 13.6% in June 2021. The figures are equivalent to 3.4 million families down from 4.2 million.

1,200 respondents nationwide participated in the said survey. Visayas has the highest decrease in hunger from 16.3% in May to 8% in June.

Task Force Zero Hunger Chief and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said the hunger incidence still has not reached the pre-pandemic levels. However, he assured that the government is doing its best to respond to the problem of hunger in the country.

“Hunger incidence is still not at pre-pandemic levels, and we believe we still have work to do to get there, but ultimately our goal is to put ourselves in a position to eradicate hunger once we have reopened the economy fully and enter a better normal,” he said.
