PH receives 800-K Pfizer vaccine doses

The Philippines received the largest arrival of the government’s procured Pfizer vaccine on Wednesday (Aug. 11).

813,150 doses of Pfizer vaccine aboard Air Hong Kong flight LD456 landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19 Chief Implementer and vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. said the newly arrived vaccine doses will be distributed to Metro Manila and other highly urbanized areas.

“Ang karamihan dito will be given to Region 4-A, Region 3, and also partly sa Region 1, and also in the areas of Visayas — in Iloilo. So, nakita naman natin the surges now are at different geographical areas. They were put on level 4 alert and most of those Alert Level 4 areas will be given much needed vaccines like the Pfizer,” he said.

Aside from this, 102,960 Pfizer doses have been initially allocated for Cebu and Davao each.

United States (U.S.) Embassy Charge D’Affaires John Law expressed his support to the Philippines in its fight against COVID-19.

“We really believe that the path out of this pandemic is to provide as many vaccines as possible and the United States, as I mentioned at the arrival last week is determined to do all that it can to support the Philippines in these efforts and we’re just so pleased to see the extraordinary results of Secretary Galvez’s excellent work,” Law said.

Meanwhile, as of Aug. 11, the Philippines has received 39.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
