The government continuously conducts its repatriation program for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a Laging Handa public briefing on Monday (Aug. 9), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola said that since February 2020, 408,911 overseas Filipinos have been repatriated by the government.
“This month of August alone, we will be able to bring home 7,060 Filipinos who are stranded. 4,260 through DFA-chartered flights and 2,800 through the Bayanihan flights,” she added.
In relation to this, over 300 repatriated OFWs from Oman have arrived in Davao City on Wednesday (Aug. 10), around 340 OFWs from the United Arab Emirates have arrived in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), while 350 OFWs from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia have arrived in Cebu City.
According to Usec. Arriola, 10 repatriation flights are expected to arrive in August.
