OCTA: New cases ‘very likely to increase’ next week

The OCTA Research Group on Sunday (Aug. 15) said the number of COVID-19 cases in the country is still increasing, with a reproduction number of 1.46% for the period from Aug. 8 to 14.

Data from the latest OCTA monitoring report show that seven provinces are already above 70% in healthcare utilization.

These provinces include Cebu, particularly Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Mandaue City; Cavite, Laguna, Pampanga, Batangas, Misamis Oriental, and Cagayan.

The independent research group also said two provinces were at critical risk in average daily attack rate (ADAR) – Ilocos Norte and Aklan – although the one-week growth rates have slowed in both provinces.

In the National Capital Region (NCR), new cases per day have averaged at 3,000, while the intensive care unit (ICU) occupancy is at 71%.

The Department of Health recorded 14,249 new COVID-19 cases on Aug. 14, bringing the total number of cases to 1,727,231. A total of 1,598,314 recovered, while 30,070 died of COVID-19. Mark Fetalco/CF – jlo
