Granular lockdown cuts active case count in Mandaluyong sitio

An area in Brgy. San Jose, Mandaluyong City is experiencing a decline of its confirmed COVID-19 cases following the implementation of granular lockdown beginning on Aug. 20.

Sitio Dos is under granular lockdown until September 2 after recording 22 COVID-19 active cases, including children.

The cases have gone down to eight in Sitio Dos, two days left before the lockdown expires. The barangay has a total of 20 active cases that are under quarantine facility care.

Brgy. Captain Kath Abejar said they are implementing a strict lockdown as the situation became “very alarming” due to the clustering of cases in families and adjacent houses.

“Kahit yung APOR [authorized person outside of residence] hindi namin napalabas. Alam ko sila talaga ang pinakanahirapan.. Ang mga APOR namin lumipat sa ibang lugar muna… ‘Yung iba nag-arrange ng work-from-home,” Abejar said.

Aside from Sitio Dos, more than 40 condominium units were also placed under granular lockdown in the city.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) earlier recommended to include APORs as prohibited individuals to go out during granular lockdowns.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has yet to issue a decision on the proposal.

As of Aug. 30, Mandaluyong has 19,887 active cases, of which 1,036 are active. The city has already vaccinated 667,785 individuals. – Report from Bea Bernardo/AG-rir
