Eleazar: 92% of PNP personnel now vaxxed; 2 more cops die

A total of 101,000 personnel or 45% of Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel nationwide have been fully vaccinated against coronavirus disease while more than 103,000 are waiting for the second dose of the vaccine.

“We are hoping that by the end of this month all PNP personnel will be already vaccinated against COVID-19,” PNP Chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said.

As of Sept. 2, the PNP has a total of 101,302 or 45.46% fully vaccinated police personnel, while 103,276 or 46.34% are just awaiting the second dose to complete the inoculation.

“Sa ngayon mayroon na lang tayong 8.20% o 18,279 na pulis at non-uniformed personnel ang naghihintay na mabakunahan,” Eleazar added.

Meanwhile, based on the records of the PNP Health Service, two more cops were added to the list of fatalities due to COVID-19, raising the total number of deaths to 106.

PNP Patient 105 is a 54-year-old policeman assigned in Region 5 who tested positive on Aug. 20. On Aug. 19, he was admitted to a quarantine facility after experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. On Aug. 23 he was transferred to the hospital due to difficulty in breathing and a decrease in oxygen level. On Aug. 26, he succumbed due to acute respiratory failure secondary to Covid-19.

PNP Patient 106 was a 25-year-old patrolman assigned in Region 1. He was rushed to the hospital on Aug. 24 for immediate medical attention due to difficulty in breathing. However, on the same day he was pronounced dead by his attending physician. A post-mortem examination and swab test were conducted which yielded a positive result. The deceased had received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

“Ako po ay lubos na nakikiramay sa pamilya ng ating mga pulis na namatay at agad na nag-utos sa kanilang mga hepe ng agarang tulong,” Eleazar said.

The PNP Health Service recorded 219 new cases, bringing the total of cases to 34,972 with 2,022 active cases, while 219 recoveries were noted, raising the total number of recovered personnel to 32,844. (PNP-PIO) – jlo
