DOLE suspends TUPAD program in QC District 2

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Friday (Sept. 4) suspended its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program in Quezon City District 2 due to the irregularities reported in the distribution of cash aid to beneficiaries.

In a virtual forum on Friday, DOLE Information and Publication Service Director Rolly Francia said that Labor Secretary Selvestre Bello III has directed DOLE’s National Capital Region (NCR) office to investigate the anomalies.

“Effective immediately iyan at kasabay niyan ay inatasan na rin ang NCR Regional Office sa pamumuno ni Regional Director Sarah Buenamirasol nang masusing imbestigahan ang usaping ito,” Francia said.

According to the complainants, they received P2,000 instead of the supposed P7,518 payout.

“‘Di umano, iyong what is due to the beneficiaries supposedly for 14 days na pinag-trabaho nila ay nasa P7,500 plus, ang natanggap na lang noong nagpunta sila sa remittance center to get their pay ay P2,000,” Francia said.

TUPAD is an emergency employment program of DOLE to aid the displaced or disadvantaged workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic. – Report from Rod Lagusad / CF -rir
