NCCA-NCHR launches free online Philippine history sourcebook to aid remote learning

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) launched a digital annotated compilation of selected Philippine history primary sources and secondary works to supplement the remote learning modality amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In its virtual launch on Aug. 31, National Committee on Historical Research (NCHR) Head Dr. Emmanuel Calairo said the e-book titled “Philippine History Source Book” aims to help teachers in educating students about the history and culture of the Philippines.

The 651-page digital compilation, according to Calairo, was also initiated to “set the standard on what historical readings ought to be prioritized in the education sector.”

In a Facebook post, the NCCA said the project was NCCA-NCHR’s response to the remote learning modality in the time of the pandemic.

It is a collaborative effort involving the history departments of the Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Silliman University, and the University of the Philippines-Diliman.

“The learning material is composed of various readings tackling the Pre-Spanish period; Spanish period: 16th-18th century; 19th century; Philippine Revolution; Philippine-American War; American period; Commonwealth; Japanese occupation; Postwar period: 1946-1972; 1972-1986; and 1986-present,” NCCA wrote.

The e-book is made available for download after completing a survey. – CF -rir
