Go, Duterte nominated as Pres, VP bets in 2022 polls

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) camp officially proclaimed Senator Christopher Go and President Rodrigo Duterte as its candidates for the two highest positions in the 2022 elections.

The camp chose Go as its presidential candidate with Duterte as his running mate. The proclamation was made in line with the camp’s national convention in Pampanga on Wednesday (Sept. 8).

Duterte accepted the offer to continue what the current administration has started such as the anti-insurgency and anti-illegal drugs campaign.

However, Go refused the nomination and said that he is not interested to join the presidential race in the upcoming elections.

“Alam mo kung bakit ako tatakbo ng vice presidency? Is it ambition? Maybe. But is it really a sense of love of country? Yes… I want to see the continuity of my efforts. Even though I may not be the one giving the direction, baka makatulong lang ako,” Duterte said in his speech.

“I am confident that with the strong resolve and solidarity, we once again claim victory in the upcoming elections, and together achieve a genuine lasting prosperity for our country,” he added.

The faction’s senatorial candidates are Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III, Presidential Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo, Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade, and Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez.

The guest candidates include Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Public works and highways Sec. Mark Villar, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission chairperson Greco Belgica, and Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta.

Meanwhile, Duterte reiterated that he would resign should any act of corruption in his government be proven true. – Report from Allan Francisco/AG- bny
