The City Health Office (CHO) announced that 86.92 percent of the inhabitants in the Greater Sta. Cruz Island, the top tourist destination being known for its pink coralline sand, has been fully vaccinated.

Maria Christine Lim, CHO health education and promotion officer, said a total of 113 individuals have completed their inoculation as they rolled out Friday the second dose of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccination on the island.

The target eligible population in Sta. Cruz Island is 130. The remaining inhabitants received their first dose on Friday.

“As of today, Sta Cruz Island is 86.92 percent fully vaccinated, way above the target 70 percent herd immunity,” Lim said in a statement.

Dr. Myra Abubakar Aranan, medical officer of the Sta. Catalina Health District, led the vaccination rollout as her office covers the Sta. Cruz Island.

CHO records showed that 102,774 individuals representing 14.62 percent of the 700,000 eligible population of the entire city are fully vaccinated.

The latest data from the CHO also showed that 145,299 or 20.75 percent of the eligible population received their first dose of vaccine.

The inoculation activity continues in different vaccination centers that include shopping malls, health centers, and schools. (PNA)-rir
