Department of Agriculture estimates P324-M agri-fishery damage sustained from Typhoon Jolina

Typhoon “Jolina” inflicted an estimated P324.04 million in damage and loss affecting 14,331 farmers and fishers, with volume of production loss at 17,760 metric tons (MT) and 11,357 hectares of agricultural areas in Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas.

Affected commodities include rice, corn, high value crops, livestock, and fisheries. These values are still subject to validation.

 

Action and Intervention

The Department of Agriculture (DA), through its Regional Field Offices (RFOs), is conducting further assessment and validation of damage and losses brought by TY “JOLINA” in the agri-fisheries sector.

The DA continues to coordinate with concerned NGAs, LGUs and other DRRM-related offices for the impact of “JOLINA,” as well as available resources for interventions and assistance.

The DA will provide the following assistance to affected farmers and fishers:

  1. Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas;
  2. Rice, corn and assorted vegetable seeds from affected regions;
  3. Drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry needs;
  4. Survival and Recovery (SURE) Loan Program of Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC); and
  5. Available funds from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) to indemnify affected farmers.
