The Department of Agriculture (DA) in June 2021 established the One D-A reform agenda which aims to transform the sector by employing major strategies towards a modern and industrialized Philippine agriculture.
The reform agenda is anchored on 18 key strategies divided into four pillars: consolidation, modernization, industrialization, and professionalization.
“Sa apat na pillars ng One D-A reform agenda ay nakapaloob ang 18 key strategies at components, kung saan may kanya-kanya itong specialization,” DA Assistant Secretary Noel Reyes said.
Consolidation has six key strategies: Bayanihan Agri-Clusters (BACs), Collective actions or cooperative development, province-led agriculture and fisheries extension systems (PAFES), mobilization and empowerment of partners, diversification, and credit support.
Modernization has four strategies: technology and innovation including digital agriculture, farm mechanization and infrastructure investments, climate change adaptation and mitigation measures, and food safety and regulations.
Industrialization has three strategies: agri-industrial business corridors; global trade, export development, and promotion; and post harvest, processing, logistics, and marketing support.
Lastly, professionalization has five strategies: agriculture career system, education and training of agribusiness management, youth and woman engagement, ease of doing business and transparent procurement, and strategic communications.
Under these key strategies, the DA aims to renew the agricultural sector and make it richer.
“Ito ang haligi para ma-achieve ‘yung transformation of Philippine agriculture into a modern sector na competitive at secure and resilient,” Reyes said,
Reyes also said the pandemic brought about a new perspective among Filipinos, making them more aware of urban agriculture.
“Pinakamaganda doon, nakita natin kung gaano kahalaga ang pagkain. At nakita din natin ‘yung self-reliance. Ibig sabihin, ngayon, dumami ang plantitos, plantitas. Nagkaroon ng awareness sa urban agriculture,” Reyes added. – (DA, PTV)/PG-rir
