Batangas 6th district Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto might level up her political career for 2022 national elections

By Daniel Manalastas

Batangas 6th district Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto confirmed in a text message to PTV News that she “may run for Senate or retire from politics” when asked if she’s aiming for a Senate seat.

Santos-Recto said that she is “praying” for it as of the moment.

However, she clarified that “nothing is final” yet on her political plans.

Santos-Recto is just one of those House lawmakers who might vie for a Senate seat next year.

Last June 2021, House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda already confirmed that she is eying for a senate comeback.

“I confirm that I intend to go back to my 2nd home, which is the Senate and I have already consulted the political leaders and the people of Antique.” Legarda said

“I believe that it’s my calling and there’s an urgency for me to continue the unfinished task of legislation as a senator and I believe that I can bring national government programs closer to the people of Antique if I was senator,” she added.

Meanwhile, ruling PDP Laban (Cusi wing) bared that they included House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta and Leyte 4th District Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez in their Senate slate. -rir
