PNP Chief orders probe into killing of former Abra mayoral candidate

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar tasked the local police to conduct a thorough investigation into the killing of a former mayoral candidate in Abra province.

Authorities said the victim, Amor Trina Dait, a resident doctor of La Paz District Hospital, was gunned down inside her residence in Barangay Poblacion in Pilar on Saturday (Sept. 18) night at about 7:30 pm.

Dr. Dait ran for mayor in Pilar during the 2019 local elections.

The Chief PNP vowed that all angles would be looked into to determine the perpetrators of the crime as well as their motive.

“Nagpalabas na ako ng kautusan sa RD, PRO-CAR na bumuo ng isang Special Investigation Task Group upang mapabilis ang imbestigasyon sa kasong ito in the interest of truth and justice,” Eleazar said.

“On behalf of the men and women of the PNP, ipinapaabot ko ang taos-pusong pakikiramay sa medical community at sa pamilya ni Dr. Amor Trina Dait. Tinitiyak ko sa inyo na personal kong tutukan ang kasong ito,” he added.

The local police are directed to immediately coordinate with the victim’s family to check if Dr. Dait received life threats before the crime. It must also be determined if there are individuals who could have a personal grudge against her, the Chief PNP said.

Meanwhile, Eleazar also appealed to other residents in the area to immediately inform authorities if they have information on the incident or the suspects.

As early as last month, Eleazar ordered all police commanders to start the early security preparations for the presidential and local elections in May 2022.

“This incident only encouraged us to be more aggressive in our campaign against private armed groups and loose firearms to ensure the peace, honest and orderly conduct of the elections in the next year,” the Chief PNP said. (PNP-PIO) – bny
