DOLE: PESO assists over 1-M jobseekers from Jan. to Aug.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Public Employment Service Office (PESO) assisted more than 1 million jobseekers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the department said on Wednesday (Sep. 22).

According to Labor Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay, 1.2 million Filipinos were given jobs from January to August.

“This is not much compared to the more than 2 million that we are facilitating pre-pandemic. So you would see the impact of COVID-19 when it comes to employment facilitation,” she said.

Meanwhile, Tutay emphasized that it “would be better if we open up our economy” to open up more jobs for Filipinos.

“I think that 50 to 75 percent is a big thing for us to boost our state of employment,” she said.
