PNP says first days of Alert Level System implementation ‘generally peaceful’

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said the first eight days of the implementation of the Alert Level System in Metro Manila are “generally peaceful.”

In the Laging Handa public briefing on Friday (Sep. 24), PNP chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the number of health protocol violators during the implementation of the Alert Level System is lower than the number of violators the PNP recorded while the region was placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

“So, ito po ay mababa nang kaunti doon sa average natin during MECQ na 26 days na 12,600 [violators] na araw-araw.”

He bared that based on the organization’s data, they have recorded 93,894 violators with an average of 11,712 per day.  51% of which were only given a warning, 43% were ticketed, while 6% were brought to the police station.

Meanwhile, Eleazar reported that the number of areas placed under granular lockdown in the National Capital Region (NCR) reached 220 as of Thursday (Sep. 23). He said 2,697 households involving 8, 550 individuals are affected by the granular lockdown.

“Ito ay within the 82 barangays ng siyam na cities out of the 17 cities and municipality dito sa atin sa Metro Manila.”

The PNP chief continues to urge the public in complying with the public minimum health standards to be protected from COVID-19 and control its further spread.
