2 fishermen remain missing between Cebu, Iloilo waters

MANILA – Two fishermen remain missing after their fishing vessel sank in the waters between Tanguingui Island in northern Cebu and Gigantes Island in Iloilo Friday (Sept. 24).

In a situation report on Monday (Sept. 27), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said FB St. Peter the Fisherman II’s cook, Julian Dungog, and third engineer Manuel Auditor—both from Cadiz City, Negros Occidental—remain missing.

To date, PCG has recovered seven bodies from the site where the boat sank and the surrounding waters.

They were identified as boat captain Frankie Chavez, steersman Renante Forsuelo, chief engineer Hermoño Ronamo, sonar operator Norberto Parlotzo, piscador Rommel Engle, piscador Julit Salvo and steersman Victor Calvo.

The bodies have been recovered through PCG’s search and rescue operations, both through maritime and aerial assets, since Friday.

A total of 22 out of the 31 passengers of the sunken boat, owned by Tristar Fishing Corporation, were rescued by its sister vessel FV Old Man and the Sea. (PNA)
