Drug suspect killed in Nueva Ecija buy-bust

SAN JOSE CITY, Nueva Ecija – A suspected drug pusher was killed while his cohort managed to escape in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Sto. Tomas on Tuesday (Sept. 28).

Col. Rhoderick Campo, Nueva Ecija Police director, said Jaymar dela Cruz, of Barangay Sto. Niño 1st, this city died after a brief firefight with operatives of the drug enforcement and intelligence units of the San Jose City Police.

Campo said dela Cruz’s unidentified cohort, who also fired a handgun, managed to escape on board a black motorcycle.

Investigation showed that operatives led by city police chief Lt. Col. Crizelda de Guzman conducted the operation in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

When the transaction was consummated, the suspects sensed that they were dealing with a police officer. They then pulled out their handguns and shot at the operatives, resulting in a brief exchange of gunfire.

Forensic probers recovered from the encounter site a .38-caliber revolver, one sachet containing 5 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P35,000, and the marked money used in the operation. (PNA) -bny
