Mobile number portability system to be commercially available in PH

A mobile number portability (MNP) system is set to be launched on Thursday (Sept. 30), allowing subscribers to keep their existing mobile numbers even if they switch networks.

In today’s (Sept. 29) Laging Handa public briefing, Telecommunications Connectivity Incorporated (TCI) General Manager Melanie Manuel said it cooperated with the national government and three other telecommunication companies to enable MNP services in the country.

“Ang TCI po ay venture ng DITO, Globe and Smart para maipatupad ang mobile number portability sa bansa at… sa pakikipagtulungan sa gobyerno,” Manuel said.

According to Manuel, a cell phone user will be using only one mobile number, through the MNP system, even if they decide to transfer to another network provider.

This global practice will also let a user change the service provider anytime and can be used by either prepaid or postpaid users.

Moreso, Manuel assured that there will be no issues with mobile promotions such as unlimited call and text, as network providers will continue to offer similar promotions.

“As to the calls, promos of the different telcos, I’m sure they will offer the promos kasi what MNP will actually do is to encourage our mobile providers to offer better services, better promos and then, of course, expand coverage, and then provide better CX (customer experience). And at the end of the day, makakatulong talaga iyan sa lahat ng subscribers,” Manuel said. – Report from PTV News / CF – bny
