ALCALA, Pangasinan – The Pangasinan police seized over P5 million worth of shabu and P2 million worth of marijuana from Jan. to Oct. 6 this year amid the pandemic.

In an interview on Thursday (Oct. 7), Pangasinan Police Provincial Office information officer Maj. Arturo Melchor Jr. said the total weight of shabu confiscated was around 749.21 grams and 17,362 grams of marijuana.

Some 592 pushers and 152 users were arrested during the period, he said.

Melchor said the accomplishments were the result of 679 operations.

Of the total number of operations, 88 served warrants of arrest, 457 were buy-busts, 57 were police response, 44 served search warrants, 19 Oplan Sita, and 14 checkpoints.

The latest confiscation of shabu at a border checkpoint in Barangay Vacante in this town on Wednesday (Oct. 6).

Melchor identified the suspect as Abulkhair Alip, 30, of Barangay Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City.

“Alip was a backrider in a motorcycle driven by a still unknown man when they were stopped at a regional border checkpoint on Wednesday late afternoon. Alip went down the motorcycle and they were asked to show the necessary travel document to be able to enter the province but failed to do so,” he said.

During the inspection, Melchor said Alip’s companion fled back to Moncada Tarlac while the former was frisked by the police.

“Upon searching, the police found two sachets of suspected shabu weighing around 1.8 grams inside the pack of cigarette(s) of the suspect,” he said.

Melchor said the suspect has been charged with drug raps. (PNA) – bny
