Cagayan gov: Programs vs. drugs, insurgency among gov’t accomplishments

The war against illegal drugs, opening of ports, and the programs against insurgency have been considered by several provincial leaders in Cagayan Valley as the legacies of the current administration.

In an interview, Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba said narco-politics could have become the game in the province if President Rodrigo Duterte did not win in 2016.

“Dito pumapasok ang drugs noon and a lot of our politicians [are] already involved in the trade, including our police organization dito. Naging business na nila ito,” he said.

“Secondly, I think this is one of the biggest legacies niya – reconnecting our province to the rest of the world by opening the port, and mitigating itong perennial na problema namin sa flooding,” he added.

He said it was also his first time to witness a whole-of-nation approach against insurgency in his 33 years of stay in government, adding that these programs have to be continued.

“Halos lahat naman po ngayon ng mga barangays namin ay kahit papaano nakakapagsalita na sila against the insurgence. We have opportunities also because nagkaroon ng investments na rin po,” he said.

Meanwhile, Quirino Gov. Dakila Cua said Duterte’s “straight leadership” is considered his legacy.

“Napakita lang ng ating Pangulo na with political will, mas marami tayong mapapasama sa ating adbokasiya, mas magiging malawak ang influence ng ating pangarap na maging disiplinado at payapa ang ating pamayanan,” he said. -AG-rir
