Tugade to inaugurate new building at Mactan-Cebu airport

Efforts to upgrade the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu continue as Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) are set to inaugurate the airport’s new corporate building on Thursday (Oct. 28).

Completed last March 21, the six-story corporate building will house employees of the MCIA Authority (MCIAA) in a single building with better equipment and facilities. The new facility aims to improve services and accessibility to clients. Construction work began last March 28.

Identical to the MCIA’s design, the corporate office building will have passageways linked to terminal buildings to avoid crossing vehicle lanes.

Coinciding with Tugade’s inauguration of the MCIAA corporate building and command center is the inspection of the airport’s secondary runway, which is expected to be completed in May 2022.

On May 6, Tugade inaugurated the MCIA’s new taxiway and apron, which increased the airport’s aircraft parking capacity from 40 to 50 slots and maximized aircraft movement capacity.

The CAAP will also provide updates for other airport projects, including the progress and development of Bantayan Airport on Bantayan Island, the construction of Medellin Airport in Medellin town, and Camotes Airport in San Francisco town.

The development projects at the MCIA and construction of airports in Cebu strengthen the Department of Transportation’s continuous pursuit of providing world-class and reliable service to air passengers and helping achieve economic growth and development in Cebu and the whole Central Visayas region.
