Caraga boosts vax drive, over 543-K vaccinated

Government agencies and local government units (LGUs) have been strengthening their COVID-19 vaccination program for their target population in the Caraga Region.

There are around 1.5 million individuals in the region’s vaccine master list and 60% of that number need to be vaccinated for population protection.

“Because of the target of the national government, especially here in Caraga and all the provinces and cities, we should hit the desired total coverage so that we can reach that population protection,” Department of Health (DOH) Caraga chief epidemiologist Dr. Gerna Manatad said.

The regional office of the DOH has set daily vaccination targets for LGUs as some areas have yet to meet their 50% target.

As of Oct. 29, a total of 543,798 have been vaccinated. The DOH has already joined forces with the private sector for their inoculation.

Some LGUs have also allowed private establishments to implement a “no vaccine, no entry” policy, such as Surigao City.

“Lahat ng LGUs, nagkakaroon ng iba’t-ibang way, really, in increasing, accelerating ‘yung ating vaccination ng ating frontline personnel, ng ating poor population at ‘yung remaining na mga senior citizens,” Manatad said.

The health official said the public should not wait for December to get their jab.

Meanwhile, Caraga has started vaccinating its pediatric population last Oct. 29 covering 12 to 17 year-olds with comorbidities. – Report from Doreen Marielle Rosales (PIA Caraga)/AG- bny
