DOLE: All rank-and-file employees entitled to holiday pay

By Pearl Gumapos

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Thursday (Nov. 4) said all rank-and-file employees are entitled to holiday pay, regardless of employment status.

“Lahat po ng rank and file employees, regardless of employment status. Kahit po siya ay casual, contractual or probation pa lamang po o nag-uumpisa pa lang, entitled po lahat,” DOLE Policy and Program Development division chief Nicanor Bon said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

“Ang requirement lang po diyan ay dapat po siya ay pumasok on the work day prior to the holiday or on leave with pay on the work day before the holiday,” he added.

Bon explained that next year, there will be 12 regular holidays, nine special holidays where six of them are special non-working days and three are special working days.

“Iyong tinatawag na holiday pay, mag-a-apply lang po iyon sa mga regular holidays. Ang rule natin sa mga special holidays ay ‘No work, no pay.’ Kapag pinapasok ang empleyado during a special non-working holiday, mayroong karagdagang bayad. Ang tawag diyan ay premium pay [which is] 30%,” Bon said.

“However, doon sa tatlong special working holiday is considered an ordinary day. Wala pong additional payment na premium pay,” he added. -rir
