MINSK – Two Russian paratroopers who participated in the exercise in Belarus died, Belarusian media reported, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Their parachutes failed to function properly “due to a sudden strong gust of wind” during their jumps, said the report.

They were taken to the local hospital for treatment but died due to heavy injuries.

The Belarusian Ministry of Defense expressed condolences to the Russian side.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a 250-man troop came to Belarus on Friday to participate in a joint tactical exercise, which was part of the response to the inspection of the Russian-Belarusian Union State Forces.
