Former PNP Chief welcomes dropping of graft charges against him

Retired Philippine National Police (PNP) Gen. Oscar Albayalde welcomes the Ombudsman’s decision to dismiss the graft case filed against him by the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

In a statement, the former PNP leader said that the Department of Justice and the Ombudsman’s decision to file a case against him was rooted only in personal attacks and that there was no evidence.

“The decision of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office of the Ombudsman is a concrete validation of what I’ve always insisted, that these personal attacks were baseless and without evidence,” Albayalde said.

Based on the Ombudsman’s resolution, Alayalde said the evidence against him was lacking.

The former general was involved in the issue of ninja cops which resulted in his early retirement from the service.

The DOJ filed a case on graft charges against Alabyalde last January 2020 over a 2013 drug recycling case.

Albayalde had welcomed the filing against him saying that it was a chance to clear his name. – PTV News/PG-rir
