Fariñas praises, vows support for Go

Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go’s candidacy received a boost as Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ria Fariñas announced her approval of his bid for the presidency.

The young Fariñas, who belongs to the PDP-Laban, earlier praised Go and said that she would support the senator, the standard bearer of the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).  PDDS has an alliance with PDP-Laban.

The senator thanked Fariñas, who is currently serving as deputy majority leader of the House of Representatives, saying, “Salamat po sa suporta at tiwala. Hindi namin ito sasayangin, magseserbisyo po kami sa inyo. Magtulungan tayo.”

The economy in the Ilocos Region is anchored on agriculture and agro-industrial sectors. Go earlier unveiled his food security plan before industry leaders at the Philippine Business Conference and Expo Presidentiables Forum organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Go vowed to continue to build agriculture support systems and infrastructure, such as farm-to-market roads. He likewise intends to enhance the free irrigation of farmlands, a program started by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte with his signing of Republic Act No. 10969 or the Free Irrigation Law in  2019.

“Ipagpapatuloy at papalawigin natin ang National Rice Program, Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund, at iba pang programa para sa mga magsasaka at mangingisda,” Go underscored.

Go further emphasized that he will invest heavily in the establishment of regional and big provincial storage facilities equipped with, among others, a central refrigerated warehouse, chilling rooms, freezer storage, ice plant, blast freezers, and refrigerated processing rooms.

“This will prevent wastage of farm produce, like what happened with some vegetable farmers dumping their ripe tomatoes on the roadside in Benguet, for example,” Go pointed out. (Office of SBG) – jlo
