Duterte officially withdraws candidacy for Senator

President Rodrigo Duterte officially withdrew on Tuesday (Dec. 14) his certificate of candidacy for senator in the 2022 national elections.

In a Twitter post, Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson James Jimenez shared a photo of President Duterte who personally withdrew his candidacy. He was accompanied by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

The President filed his candidacy to join the senatorial race through a representative on the afternoon of Nov. 15, or the last day of substitution filing.

He substituted Liezl Visorde of Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).

Earlier today, Sen. Christopher Go formally exited the presidential race after personally withdrawing his candidacy at the Comelec’s office in Intramuros.
