ITCZ to bring rain showers over Mindanao

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

MANILA – The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting the southern part of Mindanao will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms across the island, the weather bureau said on Tuesday (Dec. 21).

In its 5:00 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains are possible.

Cagayan Valley region and Aurora province are forecast to experience light to moderate with at times heavy rains caused due to the shear line.

It added that isolated to scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards.

Isolated rain showers caused by the northeast monsoon will prevail over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region.

The rest of the country will have isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over Luzon. Fishing boats and other small seacrafts over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon are alerted.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (PNA) – bny
