NVOC: Vaccines affected by ‘Odette’ should be discarded

By Pearl Gumapos

The National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) on Thursday (Dec. 23) said that vaccines affected by Typhoon Odette should be considered as wastage.

“So, iyong instructions namin, if iyong mga vaccine ay nakaranas na paglutang sa flood waters, or iyong refrigerator ay lumutang sa flood waters, if iyong time interval na nawalan ng kuryente [ay] more than four hours, dapat i-consider na siya na whether it is for disposable o hindi,” NVOC member Dr. Kezia Lorraine Rosario said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

She added that vaccines with the labels peeled away must also be disposed of.

Meanwhile, Rosario said there is enough supply of vaccine to go around, even with the recent start of booster shot vaccination.

“Yes, we have sufficient supply [of vaccines], enough, even, to do the booster administration at pagbibigay ng first dose at full doses,” she said.

“Sa ating pagbabakuna, we are expecting na mabibigyan pa rin ng pansin ng ating mga LGUs iyong pagbibigay ng primary doses, kasi alam naman natin na with the threat of Omicron, ang talagang affected will be those that are unvaccinated.”– jlo
