MANILA – While no weather disturbance may affect the country, the shear line and the northeast monsoon or amihan will continue to bring rains over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, the weather bureau said Monday, Jan. 3.

In its 4:00 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Caraga, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Central Visayas, Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte would have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line and the northeast monsoon.

“At present, we are not monitoring any weather disturbance that may affect the country,” PAGASA weather forecaster Grace Castañeda said.

Castañeda added that the shear line and northeast monsoon continue to be the dominant weather systems in the country.

The shear line will also bring isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of Mindanao.

Castañeda said the public should be alert to possible floods or landslides during scattered moderate to heavy rains.

Bicol Region, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon will experience light rains while Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have isolated light rains due to northeast monsoon.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas are forecast over the entire archipelago.

Strong to gale-force winds will prevail over the northern and western seaboards of northern Luzon, eastern seaboards of northern and central Luzon, the seaboards of Southern Luzon, seaboards of the Visayas, and northern, western, and eastern seaboards of Mindanao.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea, while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves, PAGASA said. (PNA) – bny
