‘Amihan’ to bring rains across Luzon, Visayas

by Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

MANILA – Isolated light rains will prevail over most parts of the country due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan” affecting Luzon and the Visayas, the weather bureau said on Wednesday, Jan. 12.

In its 4:00 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast light rains in Batanes and Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands; isolated light rains in Metro Manila and the Visayas; and isolated rain showers in Mindanao.

“Fair weather will prevail over the Visayas and Mindanao. Isolated rain showers in Mindanao are caused by localized thunderstorms,” PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said.

Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over Luzon and the Visayas.

Strong to gale-force winds will be experienced over the seaboards of northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of central and southern Luzon.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small seacrafts not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

Over Mindanao, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.

The temperature in Metro Manila could reach up to 30°C; Kalayaan Islands and Puerto Princesa, up to 32°C; Zamboanga, up to 34°C; and Davao up to 33°C. (PNA) – bny
