Philippine Consul General to Xiamen Maria Antonina M. Mendoza-Oblena, delivered a speech before business leaders and investors during the Philippine Business Matchmaking Meeting at the 7th China (Quanzhou) Maritime Silk Road International Brand Expo held at the Shishi Clothing City Art Exhibition Center on December 24, 2021.
Speaking before current and future investors to the Philippines, Consul General Mendoza-Oblena bolstered investor confidence by assuring the audience that the Philippines “continues to be a good partner for business peoples of China,” and that their investments and businesses are safe in the Philippines.
The Consul General highlighted the strong historical, cultural, economic, and trade relations between the Philippines and China which started centuries ago. She enumerated successful people in the Philippine government and business scene who traced their roots to China, especially from Fujian Province, while providing positive developments in the economic landscape of the Philippines. Consul General Mendoza-Oblena cited various reasons why investing in the Philippines should be strongly considered – an 11.8% GDP growth, good investment grades from top global raters, and a domestic market of 110 million.
Apart from businessmen, Chinese officials present during the business matchmaking meeting were the Deputy Mayor of the People’s Government of Shishi Mr. Xi Jianzhi, the Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Quanzhou Committee Mr. Shi Lingyi, the Chairman of the Shishi Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese Mr. Dong Lixin, the President of CCPIT Shishi Committee Mr. Li Jia, and the Vice President of CCPIT Shishi Committee Mr. Qiu Shangding.
Company representatives of Asia LandMark, MonMall, Bench, Merry Season, Oishi, and LK Coffee were provided an opportunity to present their products to those in attendance. The Economic Promotion Association of Returned Overseas Chinese (from the Philippines) in Shishi signed a distributorship agreement with several suppliers/importers of Philippine products to Fujian Province.
