Amihan to bring light rain showers, cold weather across PH

MANILA – Most parts of the archipelago may experience rains caused by the shear line affecting the eastern section of Mindanao, as well as cold temperature due to the northeast monsoon or amihan, the weather bureau said on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

In its weather bulletin issued 4:00 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Luzon would have fair weather and isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

“Cold temperature is likely over most parts of the country as the northeast monsoon continues to affect Luzon and the Visayas,” PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said.

Metro Manila’s temperature is between 19-30 °C, Tagaytay at 18-28 °C and Baguio at 12-23 °C.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are forecast over Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, and Central Visayas.

Isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may be experienced over the rest of Mindanao.

PAGASA said flash floods and landslides are possible during moderate to heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

Aurelio said there is no weather disturbance inside and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over the entire archipelago.

Gale warning is in effect over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of the Visayas.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves. (PNA) – bny
