PRRD warns corrupt cops, tells police to avoid drinking in public

By Pearl Gumapos

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday (Jan. 17) warned the public against corrupt police officers and ordered Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel not to drink alcoholic beverages in public.

“Kapag iyong nasa taas na pulis ay malinis, siguradong pababa iyan, malinis. But if the head happens to be a corrupt officer, down below, [malakas ang] corruption,” the President said during his public address to the nation.

“Alam ba ninyo kung bakit? Hindi ko inaano iyong pulis. Nagkukulang talaga ng discipline itong pulis kasi sila ang may police power, so maraming trabaho na, sometimes, can be the source of corruption,” Duterte said.

He also ordered police officers to avoid drinking liquor in public and to do it in their respective homes instead.

“I do not want policemen to be seen drinking [in public], whether you are in uniform or civilian clothes. Do not drink outside. Do it sa bahay ninyo para kapag malasing kayo, kayo na lang ang magbarilan, hindi na iyong civilian,” Duterte said.

“Ang tao kapag natorpe ang utak dahil sa alcohol, mahirap iyan. Kaya pinagbawal ko iyan,” he added.

Meanwhile, the President expressed satisfaction on the services of the PNP during his administration despite the corruption issues within the agency. – ag
