Weather systems to bring rains across Luzon, parts of Visayas

by Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

MANILA – Two weather systems will cause rains across Luzon and parts of the Visayas, the weather bureau said on Thursday, Jan. 20.

Scattered rains and thunderstorms will prevail over the Bicol region, Quezon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar due to the shear line.

In an advisory issued late Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the shear line has weakened.

However, light to moderate rains may persist in these areas in the next 12 hours to 24 hours.

Flash floods or landslides are likely during moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will bring light rains over Cagayan Valley and Aurora, and isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

The rest of the country will have isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will continue to prevail over the entire archipelago.

Because of the northeast monsoon, strong to gale-force winds will be experienced over the northern seaboard of northern Luzon.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small seacraft not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves. (PNA) – bny
