The Bureau of Customs through the joint operations of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Manila International Container Port (CIIS-MICP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) seized various smuggled goods in a warehouse in Pandi, Bulacan on January 26.
A Letter of Authority (LOA) and Mission Order against owners, representatives, or whoever is in possession of the imported goods stored at the said location was issued by the Commissioner of Customs.
Upon arrival, the implementing team explained the purpose and provisions of LOA to the representatives of the warehouse. This led to the initial inspection revealing various imported unregistered mosquito coils, motorcycle parts or accessories, kitchenware, TV antennas, power tools, infringed toys, and books, among others, with an estimated value amounting to P80,000,000.00.
The said operation was coordinated with the local Philippine National Police (PNP) and barangay officials before proceeding and implementing the LOA.
The smuggled goods shall be subjected to seizure and forfeiture proceedings in violation of Republic Act No. 8293 “Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines” and Section 1113 “Property Subject to Seizure and Forfeiture” under RA No. 10863, otherwise known as Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), concerning pertinent customs laws, rules, and regulations.
