2T cops, soldiers to secure ASEAN boys scout jamboree

DAVAO CITY — More than 2,000 police and military personnel are now deployed to secure the week-long 6th Scout Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) Boy Scout Jamboree on Nov. 27-Dec. 2 at the Energy Park, Apokon, Tagum city, Davao del Norte.

Police will strictly implement the security measures for the international event, said Police Supt. Julius Borja, the deputy provincial director for operations, during Wednesday’s AFP-PNP press conference held at Royal Mandaya Hotel.

“Today an accounting of personnel who will be involved on deployment are already done and tomorrow is the kick off ceremony on soft deployment on different areas of Tagum city,” Supt. Borja said.

About 29,000 delegates have already pledged to attend, including the scout masters and international teams, from 16 countries in Asia, the Boyscouts of the Philippines said.

Borja said government will implement a unified security effort together with the military, airforce, navy, aviation security group and Maritime police.

“The criminality threats, insurgency and terrorism we are considering that because we don’t want spillover that is why we consider that in our security preparation,” he said. (Rhoda Grace Saron/PNA)
