Palace: PRRD and other officials in talks of possible scenarios arising from Russia-Ukraine conflict

By Pearl Gumapos

The Palace on Wednesday (March 2) said that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte yesterday met with members of his Cabinet along with top officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to discuss possible scenarios should the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine continue and escalate.

ā€œThe Palace joins the country and the entire world in praying for an early and peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine,ā€ Acting Presidential Spokesperson and Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles announced during the Laging Handa public briefing.

ā€œWe reiterate the position of the Philippines that war benefits no one and that it exacts a tragic, bloody toll on the lives of innocent men, women, and children in the areas of conflict,ā€ he said.

According to Nograles, the conflict in Ukraine has economic, trade, and human resource implications for our country and for our people.

He said that every Filipino has the right to know what the government is currently doing to prepare for any situation.

The President has assured that part of the government’s proactive response to the conflict in Ukraine is to place mitigating measures and contingency plans for any eventuality.

ā€œIn this regard, the President has approved the recommendations of his Economic Team to strengthen our domestic economy, stabilize food prices, provide social protection, and explore diplomatic channels to help resolve the conflict,ā€ Nograles said. -rir
